Follow this simple tutorial to learn how I made these easy, no sew cafe curtains. These are a perfect way to add style to your window and privacy to your space, without blocking any views.

No sew cafe curtains

Our kitchen window is rather large and always felt a little bit boring to me. We have an early 2000’s build, which typically means it lacks character. We’ve been adding character bit by bit over the years.

With a small budget and 10 minutes of time, these no sew cafe curtains really made a big impact and changed the feel of our kitchen.

I looked into buying existing cafe curtains and also into buying fabric to make my own, but honestly both of those options would’ve cost about the same.

While strolling through Target, I found some cloth napkins that were the perfect size and with some curtain rings, would make the easiest cafe curtains ever.

Tips

  • Measure your space and make sure the napkins will be the right size
  • Shop around until you find a pattern you love

How do I know where to hang cafe curtains?

I wanted mine to be a little less than halfway up the window. Because the “curtains” I was working with were already made, I just measured the length of the curtains plus the height of the curtain rings. That gave me the height at which I needed to install the cafe curtain rod.

Supplies

Cloth napkins (one pack of 4 was enough for my window)

Cafe Curtain Rod (I got black)

Curtain Rings (I used 20, but probably could’ve used more)

Drill

Screwdriver

Tape Measure

Pen

How to Hang Cafe Curtains

Measure the fabric

First you need to measure. I measured from the bottom of the “curtains” to the top of the ring (once they were clipped onto the curtains). This number told me where to hang the rod.

Measure and Mark the Window

Next I measured and marked the window where I wanted to hang the rod. The length of my curtains and rings were about 19 3/4″, so that’s what I marked on my window trim.

Install the Curtain Rod

At this point, you can use a screwdriver or a drill. I personally use a little of both.

I held up the curtain rod bracket where I measured and marked the holes with a pen. Next I used a drill bit to drill a pilot hole for each of the screws. This helps the screws to go in easier and avoids cracking/splitting the wood.

Secure the Bracket

Next, use the drill or screwdriver to install the bracket.

I typically use the drill first (making sure to put your weight into the back of the drill to avoid stripping the screw) and then finish tightening it with the screwdriver.

Attach Curtain Rings and Hang the Curtains

Clip the curtain rings on the top of the cloth napkins, making sure to space them out evenly.

I also saw someone pinch the fabric and clip it, to create a more pleated look. This is just a preference thing.

That’s it!

I was trying to post this with original audio of m I was trying to post this with original audio of me explaining each item and my thoughts on the price etc etc but apparently I don’t have that capability yet on IG… so, enjoy this reel and just know that I had a lot more to say. 😂

I feel like my house is just constantly a mess, no matter how hard I try. Anyone else? It feels like I’m always behind, and to be honest, it bothers me a lot. It overwhelms me and stresses me out. It keeps me from being content and present. Between things constantly being broken (hello middle child) and just too much stuff in general.
Here’s what I’m working on to simplify and calm the chaos.
1. I’ve been removing all toys that don’t get played with often. We currently have magnatiles, Duplos, and race cars out. The rest have been moved to storage in the basement for the moment. We’ll see what we keep as my kids do sometimes notice toys they’re missing and ask for them.
2. I’ve been ruthlessly getting rid of stuff - whether donate or trash. If we don’t absolutely love it, or we have multiples, or no one touches it, or we have a huge pile of random papers and crafts. Gone. 😂 it’s so relieving.
3. I often have artwork and decor laying around because I don’t fully know where it’s going yet. I’ve been removing anything that doesn’t serve a purpose and have been putting it in basement storage. No point having it sit there and clutter. I’ll go get it when I’m ready to hang the picture or use the decor.
4. I’ve been re-assessing where we need more storage. I replaced a dresser that didn’t functional well with a $50 homeschool cabinet from FB marketplace and it’s been so much better.
5. As I remove things from our every day view, I’m noticing the ability to better enjoy the everyday messes and real life, because it isn’t so out of control and overwhelming.

I hope this is encouraging for mamas in the same boat ✨

These frames have been sitting empty for a while n These frames have been sitting empty for a while now… I went to order some prints for them the other day, and I didn’t like the price. SO I decided I was going to make my own art for them. I found a fabric remnant at a local thrift store for $0.99 cents and voila. Took all of 5 mins ✨
