Lighting can feel tricky for sure. Follow along as we talk about choosing lighting for your home.

How to Choose Lights

Choosing lighting for your home can be tricky. First, I recommend you head to Amazon or Home Depot’s websites and pick out a few light fixtures that you like that would fit your space. Try not to overthink it… If you like it, save it. Once you have a grouping of lights picked out, either save photos of each one, or take a quick screenshot (cmmd + shift + 4 for all of my fellow Apple users).

Add in the Photo of your Room

Add in a photo of your room next, so that you can see the lights that you want to change. For me, I want to replace these 2 lights (plus one more not shown). So I’m going to test out a few lights in this space to see what kind of light I want to purchase.

Remove Background Tool is Key

The “remove background” tool that Canva Pro offers is key to visualizing these lights (and really any type of anything you’re thinking of buying). You’ll want to go into Canva and open a new blank document. From there, upload your photos or screenshots. When you add each one to the page, at the top left there’s an “edit image” button. Click that and it’ll give you the option to “remove background” in the lefthand sidebar. Go ahead and remove the background.

Background is Removed

So now that the background is removed, you can put the light in place. For my final mock up, I ended up putting a square, of a similar color to the wall, over the existing light so it wasn’t distracting in the back. I’ll show you what I mean below.

My Final Mock Up

I tried out all of the different lights that I’ve linked below, however, I landed on these 2. I just love the simplicity and that they are so cohesive both being black and a little feminine with a vintage vibe. I’m a big fan and can’t wait to see them in my space. I’m heading to order these lights now and I’ll be sure to update you all once they’re installed and in place.
