Curtains are one of the easiest and most affordable ways to transform a room. Often when a space feels incomplete, some curtains would go a long way for that room to feel finished. In this round up, I’ve compiled a list of the best Amazon curtains to help you upgrade your space without overspending.

Best Curtains on Amazon (Top Picks)
- Pomegranate Linen Blend Curtains (multiple color options) – These are SO cute. A friend has them in her main living space and every time I’m at her house, I’m reminded how I need these curtains in my life. There are several different colors available.
- Windowpane Plaid Curtains – I have these in my boys’ room and they’re adorable. A subtle pattern adds some style without adding busyness.
- Buffalo Check Curtains – I have these curtains in one of my kids’ rooms and I love them so much. They offer several color options and they’re all great options.
- White and Brown Ruffle Gingham Curtains – these curtains are so cute. I probably wouldn’t use them in a living room, that’s just me personally. But in a kids’ bedroom, 100%.
- Blue Floral Pattern Curtains – these curtains are a pretty floral pattern and affordable
- Pinch Pleat Linen Blend Curtains – these curtains would be great for any space since they’re neutral. They have a luxurious, high-end and stylish look to them, since they’re pinch pleated.
- Warm Gold Rod – these rods are heavy and look very high-end. I think they look and feel like they could be Pottery Barn, without the price tag.
- Black Rod – this rod is the same as the gold one above, great value and quality for the price tag. 10/10 recommend.
- Black and Warm Gold Curtain Rings – I’m all about elevating a space without spending a ton. These curtain rings go with the rods I recommended above, and they just elevate your curtains to the next level (even if there’s a rod pocket).
How to Hang Curtain Rods the Right Way
While I would usually argue that there isn’t one right way, I do think this way of hanging curtains is superior for the majority of spaces. But let me also say, it depends on your goal. Are you trying to make your ceilings look taller and make your curtains look more expensive? Then this is the path for you. Are you trying to accentuate beautiful millwork and moulding around your window? Then this is the path for you.
By hanging your curtains high and wide, your window instantly looks larger and more stately.

How to Choose Curtains for Your Space
I’m a big proponent of making a design board before you purchase curtains, choose paint colors, buy a new sofa. It’s important to know where you’re headed with a room. It also gives you a sneak peek into what it will look like, to make sure you’ll like it. I like to do this using Canva. It doesn’t have to be fancy in any capacity, you’re just trying to get an idea of where you’re headed and if it will all go together well.
How to Decide on the Best Length
For 8-9 foot ceilings, I like to purchase 90-96″ curtains. Now with 8 foot ceilings, the 96 inch curtains will be a little too long. I recommend ordering some Iron on Hemming Tape to hem them to the right length for your ceilings. In a perfect world, the best option would be custom curtains, but if you don’t have the budget or desire to do that, this is a great next step. It creates a “custom” look for an affordable price.
If you have really tall ceilings, you’re going to need to choose a different length, based on your specific space. For example, if you have really tall ceilings and several floors of windows, you could hang them to the ceiling or just hang them to the top of the first or second windows.

How to Choose the Best Curtain Rod Color
This is a matter of preference, really. I typically lean toward black curtain rods. When I’m on Pinterest, however, I tend to really love the look of a gold rod. If you aren’t sure what you prefer, I’d recommend going on Pinterest first and searching “black curtain rod” or “gold curtain rod” and see what stands out to you. There’s no wrong choice.
I would recommend black, gold or nickel/silver/chrome.
How to Tell If Curtains Are High Quality (and How to Read Reviews)
Amazon reviews can be really telling if you know how to read them. I almost always head to the reviews before purchasing something, but especially with something like curtains. Amazon allows you to upload photos with your review, which is so helpful. From what I’ve found, if there are a lot of reviews, there will be photos (and sometimes videos). I find that super helpful for making decisions.
I also like to check the fabric type. Typically, I prefer cotton or linen, but when trying to be affordable that isn’t always realistic. If it’s a linen blend, that often is going to give a similar look to linen from a distance. Up close, it might be obvious, but that’s usually ok with me.
Curtain Pocket vs Rings With Clips: Which Should You Use?
To make sure your curtains look luxurious and high end, I would recommend using the ring clips. They allow your curtains to open and close easily and just elevate the overall look. Definitely worth the extra step/cost.
Grommets would be my last choice when it comes to curtains. They typically look cheap (and typically are) and they don’t hang well.
Should You Use Curtain Tie Backs?
I don’t, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t or can’t. Personally, I like my curtains to just hang, but if you find yourself wishing you could tie them back when your window is open, by all means! I will say though that curtains don’t often come with tie-backs anymore.
Sheer Curtains or Not? How to Decide
Whether you want sheer, blackout or light filtering curtains depends on several factors. Do you live on property or do you have neighbors that can see your every move? Does your baby/child need a completely dark environment when they sleep? Do you (or a family member) like to walk around in your underwear? There are many factors that matter when choosing what type of curtain. Our kids have blackout, or at least heavily light blocking, curtains in their rooms. In my living room, I like my curtains to let some light in before I open them in the morning. But I also like them to keep our living room mostly private when they’re closed.
Should You Layer Curtains and Blinds?
I love the look of a bamboo/woven blind/shade layered underneath curtains. It gives a layered, cozy and warm look. The blinds that we have are not cordless, so for the sake of my children I have the cords wrapped up high and we don’t use the blinds. Ours are strictly aesthetic. You can find some woven blinds here.

Should You Wash Curtains Before Hanging Them?
You should always check the dry cleaning instructions first. I typically do wash my curtains first, but I wash them alone on a delicate cycle. Once they are washed, I usually throw them in the dryer on low heat for a little while until they are damp. Once they are damp, I hang them up and let them air dry the rest of the way. Depending on the material, this method might leave some wrinkles. If your curtains are 100% cotton or linen and you don’t want them wrinkled, steam them, iron them or leave them in the dryer longer.
Do you have to wash your curtains? No.
Should You Steam or Iron Curtains?
If your curtains are wrinkly or have seams from their packaging, then yes. Even if they just aren’t hanging right, a quick fluff in the dryer or some ironing/steaming could go a long way.
I hope found this list of best Amazon curtains to be helpful!
